Biocide Performance

Because of the nature of their design, cooling towers have direct contact with their surroundings and any waterborne pathogen can easily be discharged into the environment via aerosols. Cooling towers are widespread across a variety of industries and need very close monitoring of its operating parameters for both health and efficiency reasons.

Precise ion dosing is the key to effective biocide performance. Hence the ion concentration needs to be kept within a narrow band. Failure to do so will not provide sufficient residual disinfection and can negate the purpose of ionisation equipment. This is the most common reason for customer dissatisfaction with competitor products.

Managing ion dosage

Slight overdosing of ions is not an issue with cooling towers, since there is no need to adhere to potable water thresholds laid down by existing regulations. However, it is still of critical importance to generate enough ions to achieve 100% biocidal action in a potentially highly microbially infested environment. With our AccuIon™ technology we achieve an incredibly stable ion concentration for effective biocide control.

There is however no need for dual channel units in this application. Dual channel units help to reduce the possibility of overdosing Copper in the system due to an already high Copper concentration in the water supply which is not an issue in this application.

Scalable Solutions

Our AccuIon™ CT series technology provides a scalable solution for your cooling tower and process water treatment needs. The units come in four standard sizes to suit most requirements and can also be scaled to any flow rate required for the application.





pH Control

The pH of water in cooling towers is a crucial parameter and - if not continuously controlled - will lead to severe corrosion and scaling problems. In addition, containing the pH within a narrow bandwidth greatly improves the efficacy of Copper/Silver Ionisation equipment. (see Biocide Comparison Data PDF - 54KB) To address this area, our AccuIon™ units are equipped with pH control which will constantly monitor and automatically adjust the pH as needed using a peristaltic metering pump.

Services

  1. BioN Water Synergetics Pty Ltd will provide an analysis of your existing installation and will determine the maximum flow rate to identify the correct size of the unit required. This is done using our own in-house non-invasive flow monitoring and logging equipment
  2. BioN Water Synergetics Pty Ltd will also obtain and document the following parameters:
    • pH
    • Total hardness
    • TDS
    • Calcium hardness
    • Alkalinity
    • Chlorine
    • Copper
  3. BioN Water Synergetics Pty Ltd will organize and supervise installation
  4. BioN Water Synergetics Pty Ltd, using factory trained technicians, will conduct ongoing inspection and servicing of equipment according to current legislation
  5. BioN Water Synergetics Pty Ltd will provide ongoing water analysis

Shipping and installation

Single phase 240 VAC, three pin plug is standard electrical connection on all equipment.Units are pre-assembled at the factory so as to minimise disruption to water supplies during the installation process.

Once installed, the unit immediately begins charging the water with ions and the anti bacterial action commences. It is important to understand that especially in Cooling towers bio-film, a sludge containing a biological cocktail, is present throughout the system.

Reduction of Build up

The amount of bio-film build up is dependant on the age of the tower and significant reductions in microbiological levels will not be evident until the ions have fully invaded and decayed this bio-film. Often, in the case of older or poorly maintained towers, the amount of biofilm found attached to the fill and tower internals is so great that mechanical cleaning or replacement of fill is required.

Reduced of corrosion

An additional and highly beneficial aspect of Ionisation technology is the reduction of corrosion in the tower and attached pipe work itself.
